Good to know

Frequently asked questions

Can I really consult a psychiatrist online?

Yes. Video consultations with a psychiatrist are recognised in India under the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines (2020) and are suitable for most concerns, from anxiety and depression to medication reviews and follow-ups. They aren't meant for emergencies; if you're in crisis, please use the helplines above or visit your nearest hospital.

Can an online psychiatrist prescribe medication?

Yes, when it's clinically appropriate. Our psychiatrists are MBBS, MD doctors who can diagnose and prescribe in line with India's telemedicine guidelines, and you receive a digital prescription. A few categories of medication can't be prescribed online and may need an in-person review. Your doctor will explain if that applies to you.

What's the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MBBS, MD) who can diagnose conditions and prescribe medication. A psychologist provides therapy and counselling but doesn't prescribe. If you're unsure which you need, our 5-minute screening helps point you in the right direction, and Never Alone has both.

Is my consultation confidential?

Completely. Every session is private and held over a secure video call. What you share with your psychiatrist stays confidential, and your information is handled with care and your consent.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Everything begins on WhatsApp. There's no separate app to install and no complicated sign-up. You complete a short screening on chat and join your consultation through a secure video link.

How much does it cost?

The 5-minute screening is free. Consultation fees are kept affordable and shared with you transparently on WhatsApp before you confirm a booking, so there are never any surprises.

Which languages are available?

Consultations are available in English and Hindi, and our wider clinical team supports several other Indian languages too.

Is an online consultation right for an emergency?

No, online consultations aren't suited to emergencies. If you or someone else is in immediate danger or having thoughts of self-harm, please use the crisis helplines listed at the bottom of this page, or go to your nearest hospital straight away.

You don't have to carry it alone
